INSS Warns Beneficiaries of Life Prove Scams
The National Institute of Social Security (INSS) has issued a warning to its beneficiaries about a common scam involving fake life prove notifications.
Beneficiaries of the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) have been receiving fake notifications about the cancellation of their benefits due to the lack of a life prove. However, the INSS has clarified that it does not send such notifications via SMS, WhatsApp, or email.
The scam involves sending text messages (SMS) to beneficiaries, informing them that their benefits have been cancelled due to the absence of a life prove. However, the INSS has stated that it does not send such notifications via SMS, WhatsApp, or email. This is a clear attempt to deceive and scam the beneficiaries.
To ensure their safety, beneficiaries are advised to never click on external links sent outside the official channels of the INSS and the Federal Government. The INSS has also clarified that the life prove is now carried out automatically through the cross-checking of information in government databases.
Life Prove Not Required
The INSS has also informed that it is not convoking beneficiaries to carry out life prove or re-registration procedures. This false information has been disseminated on various websites and portals.
Since 2023, the INSS has been responsible for carrying out the life prove procedure. Although it is no longer mandatory, beneficiaries who wish to carry out the life prove procedure on their own can do so in two ways: through the Meu INSS app or at the bank where they receive their payments, preferably using biometric authentication.

What is Life Prove?
The life prove of the INSS is an annual obligatory procedure for all beneficiaries who receive payment by current account, savings account, or magnetic card. The objective is to ensure that long-term beneficiaries are alive, preventing fraud in the system with undue payments.
Since 2023, the INSS has been using data from government databases for interoperability to carry out the life prove procedure of beneficiaries.
How is Life Prove Carried Out?
The INSS uses various methods and information available in its databases to carry out the life prove procedure. Currently, the following interactions can serve as proof:
- Access to the Meu INSS app with a gold seal;
- Realization of consigned loans through biometric recognition;
- Withdrawal of benefits through biometric identification;
- Attendance at an INSS agency for any service;
- Medical examinations carried out by telemedicine or in person;
- Updates to the Unique Registry (CadÚnico), made only by the responsible family member;
- Receipt of benefit payment with biometric recognition.
To check if your life prove has occurred, access the Meu INSS (site or app) and consult the "Life Prove" service. If the situation is regular, the date of the last life prove will appear. You can also check by calling 135.
