Government Reduces Fines for Small Businesses in Brazil
A new resolution from the Comitê Gestor do Simples Nacional has reduced fines for small businesses in Brazil, providing a significant financial relief for micro and small enterprises.
## New Resolution Brings Relief to Small Businesses A recent resolution from the Comitê Gestor do Simples Nacional has brought significant relief to small businesses in Brazil. The resolution, published in the Diário Oficial da União on October 10, 2026, adapts the rules of the Simples Nacional to the country's reform of the tax system. As a result, small businesses that have outstanding tax debts will be able to benefit from reduced fines. ## Reduced Fines for Small Businesses The new resolution provides a 60% discount on fixed or minimum fines for businesses that opt for the Simples Nacional. For Microempreendedores Individuais (MEIs), the discount is even higher, reaching 90% as long as there is no more favorable rule for the taxpayer. This means that MEIs will be able to benefit from a significant reduction in fines, making it easier for them to regularize their tax debts. ## Facilitating Regularization The government's goal is to facilitate the regularization of tax debts and alleviate the financial burden on small businesses. By reducing the cost of regularization, small business owners will be able to redirect resources to their core activities and improve their cash flow. ## Key Conditions for Reduced Fines To be eligible for the reduced fines, businesses must meet certain conditions. They must regularize their tax debts and pay the fine within 30 days of receiving the notification. Additionally, the fine must not be related to serious infractions such as tax evasion, fraud, or resistance to tax authorities. Business owners and accountants are advised to carefully review each notification received to determine whether it falls under the new resolution's rules and to avoid missing the deadline for payment.
