Families of Autistic Individuals Can Receive Vital Monthly Income from BPC

## Understanding the BPC Benefit The Benefício de Prestação Continuada (BPC) has become a crucial financial support for families of individuals with Autism or the Autistic Spectrum Disorder (TEA). Paid by the Federal Government through the INSS, the benefit provides a monthly income of one minimum wage (currently R$ 1,621) to individuals who demonstrate the need for the resource and meet specific income and health requirements. ## Eligibility Criteria for the BPC Benefit To be eligible for the BPC benefit, the first criterion is the per capita family income. Each family member must live on no more than a quarter of the minimum wage. If the family income exceeds this value, the application will be denied. In addition, the Autism must bring relevant limitations to daily life. Difficulties in communication, interaction, or performing simple tasks weigh in the evaluation. These information must be described in detailed medical reports. The INSS evaluation takes into account both the health condition and the family's social reality. A medical expertise and a social analysis are scheduled after the application. The decision depends on the combination of these two reports. ## Required Documents for the Application Before applying for the benefit, the family must register in the Unique Registry (Cadùnico) at the CRAS. This registration must be active and have up-to-date data. Without it, the INSS system blocks the process. During the attendance, it is necessary to present documents such as CPF, RG, and proof of residence. In addition, all family members must prove their income. The INSS requests copies of salaries, benefits, or any other source of income. Medical reports must be recent and signed by healthcare professionals. It is also essential to include reports from psychologists, speech therapists, or occupational therapists. The clearer the clinical picture, the higher the chance of approval. ## Applying for the BPC Benefit The application can be made through the Meu INSS app or by calling 135. Those who prefer can schedule an in-person appointment at a Previdência agency. The fastest option is the digital channel, when the documentation is complete. After the application, the system generates a call for a medical expertise. Then, a social evaluation is conducted with an INSS social assistant. With the two reports ready, the application is sent for final analysis. If approved, the value is directly deposited into the account indicated. The benefit does not give the right to the 13th salary and does not count as contribution time. However, it can be accumulated with state and municipal aids. ## Other INSS Benefits for Autistic Individuals Individuals who have contributed to the INSS may be entitled to disability aid, invalidity pension, or reduced-time pension. In these cases, the Autism must cause work incapacity. These benefits require previous contributions and also pass through expertise. The BPC benefit cannot be combined with INSS pensions or retirement pensions. The exception is when the autistic person is dependent on someone receiving another benefit. In this case, the family income is recalculated to evaluate the right. It is recommended that families seek help from a lawyer or public defender, especially in cases of denial. This increases the chance of presenting the correct documents. Recourse to the Justice is possible when the application is denied unjustly.
